Trincomalee is 257km north-east from Colombo. It is one of the most beautiful deep-water natural harbors in the entire world. This is the commercial center of Sri Lanka. Trincomalee has the beautiful beaches of Nilaveli and Uppuveli as well as the off-shore Pigeon Island. Trincomalee is now a popular destination for whale watching. Tourists can enjoy their holiday in diving, snorkeling, and swimming at the Dive Centers at Nilaveli or Uppuveli. Trincomalee, also known as Gokanna and Gokarna in historical chronicles and inscriptions is home to a number of ancient Buddhist temple ruins. It is considered a major Buddhist cultural or archaeological site. Because of its therapeutic properties and the differing temperatures, the seven hot springs of Kanniya are a popular attraction. They are located just 8 km from Trincomalee.
