Negombo lies approximately 37km north of Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. It is at the mouth the Negombo lagoon. Negombo is the main beach resort on the West Coast. Negombo’s main attractions are its sandy beaches and safe waters. It is located just 7 kilometers from Katunayake International Airport, Sri Lanka.

Negombo is home to a small port and its economy is largely based on tourism and the centuries-old fishing industry. Negombo, a Sri Lankan fishing town, is known for its delicious seafood. Negombo also makes spices, ceramics, and brassware. It is home to a large number of Roman Catholics as well as Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims. The township has been called “Little Rome” because it contains many Portuguese-era Roman Catholic churches. Many buildings in the town date back to the Dutch colonial and Portuguese eras. The city’s attractions include an old Dutch fort gate, built in 1672, which is now part of the prison. Also, there’s the Dutch Canal, which was once a supply route to Dutch administration, and old churches.

The canal that runs through the city is still in use and an attraction for anyone who wants to see the country differently.
