Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s capital city, is a tourist destination of international cultural significance. It is also the capital city of the North Central Province and the District of Anuradhapura. Anuradhapura, one of the medieval capitals in Sri Lanka is well-known for its preserved historical monuments from the Sinhalese civilization. It was the third capital in the kingdom Rajarata, following the realms Upatissa Nuwara and Tambapanni.

The region, which is now a World Heritage Site has been the center of Buddhism in Theravada since many generations. It is located in the North Central Province on the banks the ancient Malvathu River, 205km (127 mi) from the current capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. It is one the eight World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka and one of the oldest surviving populated towns. There are many places to visit in Anuradhapura.
